For some of our brave servicemen and women, the return home from war is not the end of the battle. Every year thousands of our nation's veterans are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from their tours of duty, and easing back into society is difficult or even terrifying.
One promising tool is the use of service dogs, who have a healing effect on people diagnosed with PTSD. Veterans with service dogs have reported improved sleep, decreased startle responses, and a decrease in the need for pain medication. The dogs help their handlers to live the lives they once did.
But these specially trained dogs can often come at a great cost, and American Humane Association is working to assist veterans suffering from PTSD with much-needed funds.
Our Wags4Patriots program helps put healing leashes in the hands of the veterans who need these dogs most. Eligible veterans can submit applications for funds to help them adopt service dogs. American Humane Association provides grants of up to $2,500 to help offset the costs for qualified veterans in need of a PTSD service dog. As part of a long-range solution to gain veterans wider access to this four-legged medicine, American Humane Association is pursuing groundbreaking research to scientifically document the physical and psychological benefits of this life-saving approach.
America's bravest men, women, children, and military animals give so much to our country but need your support! Veterans need far more service dogs than we have the funding to provide. Your gift today can help these heroes – and our nation. For more information, please contact us at 1-866-242-1877 or email@example.com.
