You’ve probably seen our “No Animals Were Harmed”® disclaimer at the end of movies. But did you know that American Humane Association’s Los Angeles-based Film & TV Unit is the film and television industry’s only officially-sanctioned animal monitoring program?

With established filmmaking guidelines, detailed production reviews, certified safety reps and more, we help keep the cameras rolling and the animals safe.

Protecting Animals in Film since 1940

Our Film & TV Unit has exclusive on-set jurisdiction from the Screen Actors Guild to supervise the use of animals in movies, TV shows, commercials and short films. Our Certified Animal Safety Representatives™ work around the world — not just in Hollywood — to ensure that productions meet our strict Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media.

Helping Filmmakers Put Safety First

With published guidelines and highly-trained staff, we are a valuable resource for producers, filmmakers and screen writers. Our team members work with industry professionals to protect animal actors and promote animal welfare.

Hero Dog Awards

American Humane Association's Hero Dog Awards were created to advance society's understanding of the powerful relationship between dogs and people. Each year they conduct a nationwide search to find hero dogs in eight categories: Law Enforcement and Arson Dogs; Service Dogs; Therapy Dogs; Military Dogs; Guide Dogs; Search and Rescue Dogs; Hearing Dogs; and Emerging Hero Dogs.
