WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, October 18, 2023 — Global Humane, the United States’ first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare practices, announced today that Cabo Adventures has earned American Humane Certified™ certification and meets the high standards for animal care.
“We are thrilled that Cabo Adventures have joined their U.S. counterparts in meeting the standards to become Global Humane Certified,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of Global Humane. “Cabo Adventures offers a unique opportunity to experience the wild wonders of Cabo up close helping to inspire the next generation of conservationists.”
To receive the Global Humane certification, Cabo Adventures passed a rigorous independent assessment, which reviewed the well-being of animals in the park’s care. The unique process is guided by the latest science and is informed by a Scientific Advisory Group made up of respected veterinarians and experts in the fields of animal welfare, animal science, zoology, and ethics who have decades of experience in protecting animals.
The independent validation process—which goes above and beyond to help protect animals—provides park visitors with the confidence the institution is meeting a high benchmark of care. The process includes a pre-audit application period that is followed up by an onsite visit that assesses animal welfare. Factors considered during the audit include, but are not limited to, housing, food, water, lighting, shade, sound, activity levels, and the training of staff who are interacting with the animals. The benchmarks are species specific.
“As the CEO of Cabo Adventures, I firmly believe that achieving an American Humane certification is not just a prestigious recognition; it’s a testament to our unwavering commitment to the well-being of our camels. This certification not only sets us apart in the industry but also demonstrates our dedication to providing the highest standards of care. It signifies that we prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of our camels, and it reassures our customers and partners that they are supporting an operation that values ethics, transparency, and animal welfare above all else,” said Felipe Diez Canedo, CEO of Cabo Adventures. “I am proud to announce that we are the only operation of its kind to have received this certification. This remarkable achievement reflects our pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication to leading the way in animal welfare. It sets a new industry standard and underscores our role as trailblazers in responsible camel management. Our pursuit of the American Humane certification reflects our mission to lead with integrity and compassion, ensuring that our camels lead happy, healthy lives while continuing to serve as a symbol of our enduring dedication to excellence.”
The Global Humane Certified™ program is the first certification effort solely dedicated to helping verify the welfare and humane treatment of animals living in zoos, aquariums, and conservation centers across the globe. The program enforces rigorous, science-based, and comprehensive criteria for animal welfare, informed and reviewed by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of world-renowned leaders in the fields of animal science, animal behavior, and animal ethics. The audit helps to verify good practices at deserving zoos and aquariums and offers increased assurance to visitors that the institution they are visiting is worthy of their support.
