Canines and Childhood Cancer (CCC): Examining the Effects of Therapy Dogs with Childhood Cancer Patients and Their Families
Zoetis and The Pfizer Foundation have awarded several grants to American Humane Association to launch an innovative research study — the Canines and Childhood Cancer (CCC) research project — to investigate the impacts of animal-assisted therapy (AAT) on pediatric oncology patients and their families.
The goals of this collaboration are to promote innovation, evidence-based research, practice improvements, and knowledge advancement to further the field of research on human-animal interactions and the treatment of cancer in children. Equally important will be to foster improved communications between human and animal medical and research professionals, as well as to understand the benefits of AAT in the context of pediatric oncology treatment. Our hope is that this important research will help both patients and their families thrive while coping with the considerable challenges of childhood cancer.
