Home What We Do Rescue and Protect Sanctuary

The new American Humane Society Sanctuary is a transformative rescue center offering hope and healing for animals and people. Serving as a model for the modern humane movement, it will provide a home for animals in need and enhance key programs like disaster response training and on-site service dog training for wounded warriors.

Future features include a Multi-Species Barn, Farm Paddocks and a Veterinary Triage Center. The Betty White Healing Garden honors a remarkable legacy: for nearly a century, Betty was a tireless champion for animal welfare, serving as both a board member and passionate supporter of the No Animals Were Harmed® program during her 70-year relationship with our organization. Made possible by supporters like the Kazma Family Foundation, this sanctuary is a lasting legacy for animals, veterans and advocates.

Honoring Betty White’s Legacy

The heart of our new sanctuary welcomes visitors with the Betty White Healing Garden, featuring a life-sized bronze sculpture of the beloved animal advocate at its entrance. This lasting tribute honors Betty White’s extraordinary dedication to animal welfare and continues to inspire everyone who visits our sanctuary.

Sanctuary Programs: Looking Ahead

Pups4Patriots Service Dogs

Through our first-ever residential training program, we will train expert service dogs on-site for wounded warriors, a program supported since its inception as part of the Lois Pope Center for Military Affairs.

Animal Rescue Training

We will hold American Humane rescue program trainings to prepare more volunteers and get them ready to deploy in our rescue trucks when fires, floods, hurricanes and other disasters put animals in harm’s way.

Animals deserve more than just a roof over their heads — they deserve a space to thrive, to heal, and to feel truly cared for. The American Humane Society Sanctuary is a bold step toward a new kind of animal care, where compassion leads every aspect of our work.

This center is designed to provide comfort and peace for animals in need while offering training, rehabilitation and opportunities for growth — strengthening the human-animal bond. It’s not just a place for rescue; it’s a place for renewal and a lasting legacy of love and hope.
