Richard Blatchford completed his B.S. in Psychobiology at Hiram College and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of California-Davis in Avian Science and Animal Behavior, respectively. His research focus is on the husbandry, behavior, and welfare of small to large-scale poultry production. He is particularly interested in understanding the challenges facing small-scale and backyard poultry flocks as well as the impacts of housing systems on poultry health and welfare in large-scale facilities. He is also interested in developing on-farm assessment tools for producers and auditors to monitor the health and welfare of poultry flocks.
