Women Talking (2023)

A group of women in an isolated Mennonite community grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith after a string of sexual assaults committed by the colony’s men.

Animal actors in this production were monitored through American Humane Society’s No Animals Were Harmed® program.

Detailed Animal Action Report

In the scene where we see group of men walking on dirt road with horses and wagons, prior to shooting the horses were harnessed and hitched to single horse buggies at holding area. The trainers rode horses to set alongside the buggy horses. On action, the actors loaded prop objects into the back of the buggies.

In the scene where the actress drives a horse and buggy down a road and it gets spooked by a barking dog, the trainer drove the horse and buggy and halted on dirt path in front of camera. Also, prior to filming, the wrangler placed the dog on mark in front of camera and thirty feet in front of horses. When the horse arrived at its mark, the wrangler verbally cued dog to bark.

In several scenes where actors talk near barn with horses in the background, trainers brought horses to set and provided them water and food between takes.

Due to limited resources, American Humane Association did not monitor some of the horse action.
