Detailed Animal Action Report

Throughout the film, the main character has a pet dog who is seen performing such mild action as sitting/standing/lying, being held or petted, and walking/running on or off leash. For all of these scenes, trainers used hand signals and verbal commands to cue the mild action, which the trained dog was accustomed to performing. The barking/growling was also a trained behavior.

In the scene where the actors walk the dog to the car, the girl picks up the dog and places him in the car, the trainer was off-camera. The dog was brought to the set on a leash and rewarded with treats before and after each take. On action, the actor walked the dog to the car, picked him up, and placed him in the car.

In the scene when the two couples are in the car, and the dog sits in the backseat, the trainer placed the dog in the backseat with the other actors. Prior to shooting the scene, the actors were prepped on how to hold the dog between them in the backseat. Between takes, the dog was taken out of the car and given water.

In the scene where the actors play football on the back deck and one of the actors chucks a football in the woods and the dog runs to retrieve the football, the trainer placed the dog on his mark. One of the actors held the dog on one side, while the trainer was on the other side with the football. On action, the trainer threw the football and the dog ran to retrieve it.

In the scene where the actor walked the dog on the beach, the trainer placed the dog on his mark, handed the actor the leash, and let them go on action.

Due to late notification and/or limited resources, American Humane did not monitor some of the dog action.
