The Hateful Eight

Detailed Animal Action Report

Throughout the film, we see a team of six horses pulling a carriage holding a couple of actors. Whenever we see these teams of horses pulling wagons or carriages, the drivers were experienced and teams of horses were familiar with each other and accustomed to the pulling action. The horses were being driven in the actual snow, so between takes, the horses were covered with blankets and given food and water.

Throughout the film we also see men on horseback. All horseback riders were stunt riders or experienced actors who were skilled at riding, mounting and dismounting. All running/galloping scenes were well choreographed, and actors used caution while on and near animals.

Whenever horses were seen tied to posts/fences, they were attached to lead ropes tied to posts.

In the scene where the actors walk into the barn and talk, we see horses and chickens in the background. For this scene trainers placed chickens throughout the barn and spread seeds to keep them in place.

In the scene where we see a woman plucking a dead chicken, the chicken was a fake, and production provided us with the documentation for the fake chicken.

In the scene where we see the cat sitting on the barrel, the trainer placed the cat on the barrel, got the shots and placed the cat in a warm trailer between takes.
