The Drop
Detailed Animal Action Report
Throughout the film, the main character has a pet puppy, who is seen performing such mild action as sitting/standing/lying, being held or petted, and walking/running on or off leash. For all of these scenes, trainers used hand signals and verbal commands to cue the mild action, which the trained dog was accustomed to performing.
In the scene where the main character opens the top of a trash can and sees a puppy inside and picks him up with a newspaper, hand warmers were placed inside the newspaper, so the dog would stay warm when the actor picked him up. The dog is kept in a heated trailer between takes.
In the scene where the man is driving the car and the puppy is sitting in a bowl in the passenger’s seat, the car was driven at a very slow pace, and the heater on the car was kept on to keep the puppy warm.
In the scene where we see the puppy at the top of the stairway in the basement and the man picks him up, trainers are off camera to make sure the puppy doesn’t try to walk down the steps. The actor and the puppy had a very good rapport.
In the scene where we see the puppy sitting in the cage whimpering as actor leans down to talk to talk to him, trainers made sure the cage was clean and the room was at correct temperature.
In the scene where we see the dog lying in a bed on the passenger’s side of a car, production filmed the dog without the actor driving the car. They just filmed the dog in the car while the car was stationary.
Due to late notification and/or limited resources, American Humane Association did not monitor any of the XXXXXXX action.
