Detailed Animal Action Report
In the scene where an actor approaches a zebra, gets on it and rides it, first, trainers led the zebra to the set. The zebra is conditioned to being ridden by people. Prior to shooting the scene the actor was shown how to get on top of the zebra. The trainer laid down about ten meters in front of the zebra, once the actor mounted the zebra and rode him, the trainer stood up and showed the zebra food. The zebra walked towards the food, then they called cut. The zebra was only ridden twenty meters at a time.
In the scene where the actors run into a field of elephants and watch them walking in a field, the handlers positioned elephants using food to entice them from one area to another. One handler stood to the left of each elephant. All the trainers placed food pellets on the floor to keep elephants stationary.
When we see the two elephants mount each other and have sex, the elephants are trained to mount each other on cue by the trainers. There was no penetration. And there weren’t any actors near the elephants during this scene.
When the man sticks his head out of the elephant’s privates, those privates were constructed by the props department and were not real. In this same sequence, the fake elephant constructed in props stood among live elephants.
In the scene where the actor shoots a bird, the bird was not real, it was created through CGI.
Due to limited resources, American Humane Association did not monitor any of the dog action.
