The 5th Wave
Detailed Animal Action Report
In the scene where the girl walks into the abandoned liquor store and sees a cat eating food on a shelf, the trainer placed the cat on its mark with the food.
In the scene where we see a dog bark on a leash, three trainers were hiding behind some bushes. On action, the trainers cued the dog to bark at them, so on film it looks as if the dogs are barking at nothing.
In the scene where we see a crow eating something on the ground, then flies away, trainers tied a line on the bird’s leg with an eclipse attached to the ring. One of the trainers then placed crackers on the ground and placed the crow in front of the food. On action, the bird ate, and they got the shot.
In the scene where we see the owl on the tree branch, the trainer placed the owl on his arm and climbed up a ladder. Then the trainer let the owl fly three feet to the branch (the owl had a line attached to his leg). The director got the shot of the owl on the branch.
