Certified Animal Action Overview

No Animals Were Harmed™ representatives monitored the filming of these animal scenes to help ensure every moment was carefully planned with the animals’ well-being in mind. From a pigeon calmly foraging on a rooftop to dogs appearing in everyday city moments, each animal worked under the guidance of experienced trainers using positive reinforcement, familiar cues and food rewards to encourage natural behaviors. Safety measures were in place throughout filming, and animals were transported, handled and cared for before, during and after each scene. By focusing on patience, preparation and humane training techniques, the production captured authentic performances while prioritizing the comfort and welfare of every animal involved.

Detailed Animal Action Report

In the scene when Spider-Man jumps onto a roof and walks past a pigeon standing on scaffold, prior to shooting the scene wranglers carried three pigeons to set in cages along with feed. The wrangler pulled one pigeon from cage and placed a small harness on his chest. Then a safety fishing line was tied to the scaffolding and attached to his chest harness. On action, the handler positioned the bird and kept the safety line secured while cueing the bird to hunt for the feed placed on the girder. On action, the actor landed on the platform and walked past the pigeon who’s standing on the scaffolding. After this take, the birds were wrapped then carried back to their vehicle by the trainer.

In the scene where the actor is in an elevator and leans down to pet the dog and the dog barks at him, prior to shooting the scene the trainer brought the dog to the stage, which was created to look like the inside of an elevator. On action, the lift doors were manually opened to reveal the lead actor, before the dog was walked into the lift. The trainer placed a piece of food on the floor by actor’s feet just before action, so the dog looked for the food and ate the tiny piece of food. When the actor reached towards the dog, the trainer cued the dog with hand signals to bark and snarl.

In the scene where two actresses sit on a park bench and we see actors with a couple dogs in the background, prior to shooting the wrangler talked to background actors and entire crew regarding scene. The dogs were brought to the set and handed over to background actors. They’ve already been acquainted with dogs prior to filming. On action, they walked the dogs, one of them stopped and bent over as if he was affected by something in the air. After they filmed the scene, the dogs were brought back to their holding areas and given food and water.

In the scene where everything freezes and we see the Punisher get out of car and see a frozen woman with her barking dog on a leash, both frozen in time, this scene was filmed on the backlot of a studio. Prior to filming the trainer brought the dog to the set and handed him over to the actress. On action, the actress had a buzzer in her pocket which she used to cue the dog to bark and jump up and down. After each take the dog was rewarded with food.
