In the scene where the Smurfs are walking down a street in Paris, and they stop at a crosswalk and they see a woman walking towards them with three dogs on leashes and the dogs bark at them and they run away, trainers brought the dogs to the set on their leashes. The actor playing the dog walker was actually the assistant trainer dressed in costume. On action, she walked the dogs at a brisk pace. The camera followed alongside the dogs. Once the dogs hit their mark, the other trainer cued them to bark towards the camera. Once they wrapped, the dogs were brought back to their van.
