In the scene where the dog barks out of the car window while parked on the freeway, the trainers placed a harness on the dog and placed him in the car. A leash was used to tether the harness to the seat belt to prevent him from jumping through the window. On action the trainer cued the dog to bark at her. The dog was given water and placed in a shaded area between takes.
