Palookaville (1995)
Palookaville is a comedy about three unemployed friends, Sid, Jerry and Russell who are in desperate need of money. After bungling a jewelry store heist which lands them in the bakery next door, they decide to plot the robbery of an armored truck. In the midst of this constant melee, they try to deal with their mixed up personal lives. Sid, who is involved with Enid, a sales clerk in a fur store, has two dogs that accompany him everywhere. Jerry, who is married to Betty, finds his marriage on the rocks after accusing her boss of making a pass at her, which gets her fired. Last but not least is the master mind of the operation, Russell, who is still living at home with his mom, sister, and his brother-in-law who is a policeman. As an example of the stooges shortsightedness, during one of their trips to town, they save an elderly man from dying of a heart attack while he is driving an armored truck. They help return the truck to the company with thirty-thousand dollars inside. The irony, however, is that it happens to be the armored truck company they planed to rob. This is just the beginning as the trio plots the big heist in their get-rich-quick scheme.

Detailed Animal Action Report
Three dogs are seen throughout the film. In one scene when the trio is preparing for their big heist, they are at an armored car yard. Sid is busy drilling a hole into the radiator of a truck when a Doberman Pincher comes around the corner. The dog leaps at Sid, and for protection Sid throws his arms in front of himself. Unfortunately the drill is still in his hand and it sinks into the animals throat, killing him. Russell pulls the dog off of Sid and drags him away. This scene was filmed in cuts with the use of a real and a fake dog. When the dog leaps at Sid, the trainer doubled as the actor. The dog was merely playing with his trainer with the sounds of the attack being dubbed in later during post-production. The fake dog was used when Russell grabs the dog off of Sid and drags him away. You never really see the drill touch the dog and, in fact, the drill was never on when the real dog was in the scene. There is also a scene where the dogs are seen being walked on leashes in the rain. After each take, the dogs were immediately dried with towels by their trainers. There are several other scenes where Sid’s pet dogs are seen walking with the actor, sitting or lying on a bed, couch or floor, or riding in a car. For all of these scenes, the trainer merely placed the dogs on their mark and used voice and hand commands to cue them, with food as a reward.
