Detailed Animal Action Report

For the Birds… Betty is married to a used car salesman named Del who is clearly a loser. They share a modest little house with a pet bird, a cockatiel. The bird is seen in its cage in several scenes and eventually goes to live with Betty’s friend when Betty heads for Los Angeles. In actuality, the bird and its double went to live in a new home after filming was completed. Both cockatiels were adopted by one of the crew. Fishy business… Once in Los Angeles Betty shares a little bungalow with a girl named Rosa. Rosa has an aquarium filled with several tropical fish. In one scene the tank is knocked over and crashes to the floor, spilling the water and the fish. In a subsequent scene the fish are seen rescued and swimming in a much smaller vase cum fish bowl. This sequence was filmed in cuts and no fish was harmed or stressed when the tank was overturned. In fact, the fish were removed for the actual crash by a professional handler. All the fish went back to the aquatic supplier when filming was completed.
