Detailed Animal Action Report
In the several scenes where we see a rat wearing a small vest and contraption and held on a glass surface, which is supposed to be a space module, the trainer fitted the harness on the rat and placed him on his mark in the glass habitat. After each take Grace returned to the rat and rewarded him, removed him and held him until the next take and cleaned out any droppings with paper towel.
After filming the sequence, the rat was returned to his box and his harness was removed.
When the alien kills the rat, the trainer elicited a small reaction from the rat in a few takes, and those takes were utilized in post production with the special effects team.
