Detailed Animal Action Report
In the scene where the dog jumps out of the bushes bites the man on his pant leg, prior to shooting the dog and actor prepped this scene. Just prior to shooting, the actor entices the dog with a squeaky toy. Also, the actor’s pant leg is baited with food. On action, the trainer cues the dog to run to the actor and bite his pant leg. They film the dog biting the pant leg in an insert shot.
In the scene where the man fires his gun at the dog and just misses him, a paintball gun was used with a spark ball to appear to look like a bullet ricocheting off a surface. . On action, the trainer was standing off-camera and cued the dog to run to him. As the dog ran, the experienced marksman shot the paintball at a safe distance from the dog.
