Detailed Animal Action Report

In the first quarter of the film the main character has a puppy seen performing such mild action as sitting/eating/lying, being held/picked up and walking/running on or off leash. For all of these scenes, trainers used hand signals and verbal commands to cue the mild action.

In the scene where the dog jumps into the bed and wakes actor up, trainers placed food on the bed near the actor. On action the trainers let the puppy go, he jumped near the actor to where the food was placed.

In the scene where the dog jumps into the car, trainers placed two apple boxes outside the car so the puppy could jump into the front set. On action, the trainer places the dog on the crates, and another trainer calls him from inside the car. The puppy climbed up the crates and into the front seat without a problem.

In the scene where the puppy runs behind a couch and a masked man follows him and appears to kick him, this scene was accomplished in two separate takes. In the first take one trainer let the puppy go at point A, and another trainer called the puppy to him at Point B. The dog ran from point A to point B, which was behind the couch. Then they cut and took the puppy out of the room. After the puppy was taken out of the room, they filmed the actor acting like he kicked the puppy behind the couch. The puppy was actually never there.

In the scene where the main actor holds the dog’s dead body, trainers had the puppy lie down with fake blood on him. They also used a fake puppy in this scene.

When we see the actor doing donuts in a driveway with the dog supposedly in the passenger car, the dog was never in the car for those scenes.

In the scene where the actor walks into the kennel and frees the dog from a cage and walks out of the kennel with him, trainers acquainted the dog with the actor before filming.
