Detailed Animal Action Report
In the scene when a stampeding crowd escaping a tornado, knocks a little boy on the ground and the dog in his arms runs away, the trainer watched two rehearsals without the dog in order to better judge the safety of the scene. The boy and the dog were well acquainted with each other prior to filming.
In rehearsal the trainer showed the dog his marks and the route he would go down. He also worked with the boy actor to show him the proper way to release him. The director spoke to the crew and extras prior to filming with the dog, informing them the dog would run through the crowd to get to the other side of the road. He also held several rehearsals to get the timing set up to maximize the safety.
On action, the boy fell on the ground, letting the dog go. The dog ran from point A to point B and into the arms of his trainer. He was rewarded with treats and love!
Due to limited resources, American Humane Association did not monitor any of the cat action.
