Detailed Animal Action Report
In the scene where the dog walks across the road in slow motion, prior to shooting the scene, the dog was walked to the set by the animal trainer. The dog was very well-trained and well-prepared to perform the required animal action. All vehicles were blocked from driving in the area where the dog was on set. The scene was rehearsed prior to filming. The animal trainers were on set out of frame at all times. The dog started at point A. On action, the dog trotted to a mark on point B. He stopped and looked in the direction of the camera. The animal trainer cued the dog to trot to the mark, stay, then trot to her. She utilized verbal commands, hand gestures, and gave the dog food treats to provide positive reinforcement. After the dog wrapped, they brought him back to an air-conditioned van.
In the scene where we see a dog chained on the front yard of a house, the chain was tied to a metal fence. The dog’s trainer placed a mark on the ground close to the fence, and used “go ” commands to place the dog on his mark. The trainer then used voice commands to keep dog on his mark. On action, the dog moved to his mark and barked.
