Detailed Animal Action Report
In the scene where we see dogs in crates and a cat in a case on the conveyor belt, the trainers placed the animals in the crates and stood off camera, making sure the animals were safe and the conveyor belt was moving at a safe speed. At cut, the animals were taken out of their cases and given food and water between takes.
In the scene where the capuchin monkey opens the crates and sets several animals free, the monkey’s trainer showed the monkey how to open the crates, by pushing down a lever. The director took different shots of the animals running out of their crates. They didn’t’ run out all at the same time.
In the scene where the pig, dog, goat and bird run down the aisle of the plane, this was shot on a stage with trainers off camera, cuing the animals to run this way and that way. All the animals were prepped for the scene and given food and water between scenes. The animals hardly interacted since they were individually placed in crates between takes.
In the scene where the bus pulls into a town and we see a horse and buggy, the trainer was actually playing the guy who was driving the horses. The horses remained still during the scene. They were not ridden. Traffic was closed to the public.
The fish in the aquarium were CGI.
