No Animals Were Harmed™ representatives monitored the filming of this scene to help ensure the llama’s welfare and comfort throughout production. The llama was calmly guided onto the set by its trainer, positioned near the recording equipment and remained under the trainer’s supervision at all times. To create the playful “beatboxing” effect, the trainer simply rewarded the llama with a treat, capturing natural chewing movements that were later enhanced with CGI to give the appearance of rapping. The scene relied on routine animal handling, positive reinforcement and careful coordination with the cast and crew. Once filming was complete, the llama was quietly led back to its trailer, concluding the sequence in a safe and controlled environment.

Detailed Animal Action Report

In the scene where an actor is in a recording studio and we see a llama standing near the microphone, prior to filming the trainer brought the llama on a lead into the set. Then the actors entered the set. The trainer then placed the llama on its mark between the drums and the keyboard. A clear lead line was attached to the llama’s halter and was held by the trainer below the camera for the entire sequence.

The actor stood at the recording microphone, with four background actors while the llama was positioned to the left of everyone. On action, the trainer gave the llama a treat who chewed it, giving the effect that he was “beatboxing.” In post they used CGI to make it look as if the llama was rapping. After filming the scene, the trainer led the llama back to his trailer.
