Newest Episode of “American Humane in Action” Television Series Focuses on Efforts to Improve the Lives of 10 Billion Farm Animals

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, November 23, 2021 — The latest episode of “American Humane in Action,” a new, five-part television series by the country’s first national humane organization, will begin airing the week of November 28, focusing on efforts to improve the lives of the 10 billion animals raised each year on the nation’s farms and ranches.

Hosted by Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane, the show features leading agricultural producers who have committed to raising their animals humanely, following the nearly 200 science-based welfare standards of the American Humane Certified™ program, and agreeing to regular audits by independent, third-party auditors to demonstrate compliance with those standards. Among the episode’s guests are Gus Arrendale, president of Springer Mountain Farms; Mel Coleman, co-founder of Coleman Natural Foods; and the American Humane Farm Program Director of Operation, Haley Grimes, who explains the program for those who wish to support humane agriculture.

It is clear that Americans are demanding humanely raised options in their grocery store now more than ever, and a survey by American Humane confirms this. The poll of 5,900 Americans revealed that more than nine in ten (94.9%) said they were “very concerned” about farm animal welfare. More than three-quarters (75.7%) stated that they were very willing to pay more for humanely raised eggs, meat, and dairy products. In addition, when asked what factors were most important to them in choosing foods, respondents said that a label indicating the animals were humanely raised was more significant to them than labels indicating the foods were organic, natural or antibiotic-free.

“Americans have a number of choices when deciding what to serve their families, and we are proud to see that more and more of them are opting for humanely raised products because it is the right thing to do,” said Dr. Ganzert. “While we know the decision to consume animal products is a personal one, we do recognize that millions of Americans will consume meat, poultry, dairy and eggs during the holiday season, and we urge them to consider foods with our American Humane Certified™ seal.”

The “American Humane in Action” series provides viewers a with a firsthand look at how the world’s leading humane programs save and protect animals in a wide variety of settings, from those caught in disasters to those who serve in our military, endangered and disappearing species threatened by the current “Sixth Mass Extinction,” animal actors working in film and television, and animals being raised on farms and ranches.

“You can’t protect what you don’t love, and you can’t love what you don’t know,” said Dr. Ganzert. “American Humane is working to educate children, families and the public about humane issues through engaging platforms and media. We hope that ‘American Humane in Action’ will touch the hearts and minds of animal lovers around the country.”
