Narrated by Meryl Streep, “Escape from Extinction Rewilding” Highlights Rewilding as an Innovative Solution for Protecting Threatened and Endangered Species
American Humane Society, the United States’ first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare practices, today announced its latest documentary, Escape from Extinction Rewilding is now available to rent or buy on Amazon and will be available on additional video-on-demand platforms, including iTunes, Fandango at Home and Google Play starting May 2, 2025.
The highly acclaimed documentary showcases how rewilding, an innovative, ground-tested solution, ensures that conservation efforts are not only effective but also sustainable.
“By offering “Escape from Extinction Rewilding” on streaming platforms, we are able to highlight the importance of rewilding and introduce more audiences to the critical need for species conservation,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane Society and the film’s executive producer.
Alarmingly, there are currently 1,000,000 species that are threatened with extinction with the prediction that one half of all species will become extinct by 2050. With just 3% of the world’s ecosystems intact, “Escape from Extinction Rewilding” seeks to halt this devastating decline in natural diversity by highlighting a conservation approach that puts nature first—rewilding.
Rewilding is an innovative conservation strategy aimed at restoring and protecting natural ecosystems by allowing them to return to their wild state. This approach involves the reintroduction of native species, especially apex predators and keystone species, which helps restore ecological balance and biodiversity, ultimately strengthening local and global food systems, mitigating climate change, and providing socio-economic opportunities for communities.
“Escape from Extinction Rewilding” is directed and produced by Matthew Brady through his production shingle MRB Productions.
