American Humane Presents the Humane Society of South Mississippi with Feed the Hungry Grant

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, April 14, 2020American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is a recipient of American Humane’s Feed the Hungry grant. Located in Gulfport, Mississippi, HSSM is committed to ending pet overpopulation and homelessness.

“We wanted to say thank you so much to American Humane for generously donating to our organization through the Feed the Hungry fund,” said Katie King, Development Director at HSSM. “Right now, we are entering our fifth week of challenges faced during the COVID crisis, so this donation is a huge help during this difficult time. With this generous contribution, we are going to be able to continue providing much-needed food to vulnerable pet parents in the community and be able to offer assistance to those that need it the most. Thank you so much to American Humane for helping us save lives and for all that you do.”

HSSM is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. It was selected as a recipient of the Feed the Hungry fund due to its success in saving and enhancing the lives of pets through cooperative and innovative approaches to adoption, spay/neuter, sheltering, wellness and community engagement. In 2019, HSSM took in and cared for 7,039 animals. HSSM is committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and it aims to make South Mississippi a community in which no adoptable pet is ever euthanized.
