WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, May 19, 2020 — American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that Street Dogz is a recipient of American Humane’s Feed the Hungry grant. Located in Las Vegas, NV, Street Dogz works to ensure that no pet is surrendered due to a lack of resources on the part of their human.
On a single night in 2019, 5,530 people were identified by the Point-in-Time Count as homeless in Southern Nevada. Street Dogz strives to provide assistance to pets of homeless and those in need by offering food and supply distribution, assisting with funding to spay and neuter pets, meeting the needs of special food diets, medications and vaccinations, and working to provide temporary housing for pets. In addition to offering material support, Street Dogz finds that efforts to help humans care for their companions offer a sense of dignity, comfort and hope. Street Dogs was selected as a recipient of the Feed the Hungry grant due to its dedication to ensuring pets are not surrendered in the first place, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The team provides weekly distributions of pet food and supplies to more than 200 homeless community members and their pets, such as “#SummerEssential” items including booties to protect paws from hot pavement, cooling scarves, water and umbrellas.
