American Humane Presents Mr. Grey’s Strays with Feed the Hungry Grant

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, May 21, 2020American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that Mr. Grey’s Strays received a grant from American Humane’s Feed the Hungry fund. Located in Brockport, New York, Mr. Grey’s Strays is a small, community focused cat rescue.

“Due to the COVID-19 virus… All community fundraisers have been put on hold, and all types of donations are extremely down due to the financial uncertainty of our followers,” said Ellen Halstead from Mr. Grey’s Strays. “This grant has enabled us to cover some of the costs of extra food and litter incurred during the extended time of care we have had to the increased number of cats during this restrictive period. We have also been able to give food to help feed other local feral colonies and donate food to people who have lost their jobs and are unable to afford food for their pets.”

Mr. Grey’s Strays assists cats and kittens by promoting the need for neutering surgeries and vaccinations, while educating the community on the importance of these veterinary services. The organization recently attained legal not-for-profit status from New York and the IRS to run its Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return operation. The team has been trapping, re-homing and rescuing feral/abandoned cats for more than six years, and through their own funds and the kindness and generosity of friends, volunteers and strangers, saved more than 200 cats last year alone. Mr. Grey’s Strays is housing an influx of cats due to the pandemic, and American Humane’s Feed the Hungry grant will cover the costs of the necessary extra food and litter needed to care for the 100 cats and kittens rescued since the start of COVID-19.
