American Humane Presents Cats League & Assistance of the Western Slope with Feed the Hungry Grant

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, July 8, 2020American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that Cats League & Assistance of the Western Slope (CLAWS) received a grant from American Humane’s Feed the Hungry fund. Located in Grand Junction, Colorado, CLAWS provides shelter and care for abandoned and homeless cats, with the goal of finding them permanent homes or providing them with a lifetime home in its own facility.

CLAWS, the largest cat rescue on the Western Slope of Colorado, is home to cats of all colors, personalities, ages and abilities who are all looking for their forever homes.  CLAWS is a sanctuary shelter, which means it does not euthanize for space or because a cat has been there for an extended amount of time. The shelter’s goal is to place each cat into a loving home where it will live out its entire life. Since the start of COVID-19, the donations to the shelter have decreased monumentally, however, the intakes have increased. CLAWS currently has more than 200 shelter/sanctuary cats that need to be cared for daily, as well as 125 cats and kittens in foster homes waiting for surgery to allow them to be adopted. The Feed the Hungry grant will help CLAWS keep its doors open and continue to care for hundreds of cats in need.

To help shelters continue to save lives during this unprecedented crisis, consider donating today. Learn more at www.americanhumane.org/feedthehungry.
