American Humane Hosts Humane Table Event with Leaders on Capitol Hill

This week, American Humane, the United States’ first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare practices, gathered leaders on Capitol Hill, farmers, ranchers, processors, and others for the Humane Table event.

The event provided an opportunity for farmers and ranchers to showcase their commitment to animal welfare and their efforts to provide humanely raised proteins, contributing to a humane table.

“American Humane is so proud to celebrate the hardworking farmers and ranchers who are committed to the humane treatment of animals,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane. “Their dedication to humane practices makes a clear difference—not just for the animals they care for, but for all of us who rely on humanely produced products.”

American Humane recently commissioned its third national survey focused on humane food choices in meat, egg, and dairy products. This survey, conducted with a nationally representative sample of 1,003 U.S. adults aged 18 and over, revealed that:

  • 72% of respondents express concern for the welfare of animals on farms, indicating strong consumer interest in humane farming practices.
  • 60% believe a “Humane Certified” label improves their perception of a product.
  • Over half of respondents (58%) indicated they would pay more for humanely raised products, and this willingness increased when presented with a humanely raised claim.

The American Humane Certified™ program certifies over one billion farm animals and imposes rigorous, science and evidence-based, comprehensive criteria for animal welfare, reviewed by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of world-renowned leaders in the fields of animal science, animal behavior, and animal ethics.

By supporting our mission to improve farm animal welfare, certified producers, processors, retailers, restaurants, and food service providers are enabling more consumers to source ethically and humanely raised food year-round.
