American Humane and Anheuser-Busch Celebrate National Preparedness Month with ‘Prepare for Your Pets’ Campaign

Expansion of longstanding disaster relief efforts for the campaign includes emergency drinking water donations and a $200,000 grant from Anheuser-Busch Foundation

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, September 9, 2021American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced a new partnership with Anheuser-Busch and the Anheuser-Busch Foundation including a grant in support of American Humane’s disaster response efforts. The grant coincides with National Preparedness Month and together, American Humane and Anheuser-Busch, will support pet-focused relief efforts and raise awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness for both people and pets.

“American Humane has been on the front lines protecting animals and saving lives in times of crisis and natural disasters for more than 100 years,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane. “Ensuring you have an evacuation plan that includes your pets will not only help save the lives of our beloved animals but also the lives of owners, volunteers, and first-responders. We are grateful for Anheuser-Busch’s support in helping to communicate this important message.”

Throughout the month of September, American Humane and the brewer will share ‘Prepare for Your Pets’ disaster preparedness resources across its social media channels focusing on educating people on how to be prepared for themselves and their pets in times of disaster. This information is especially critical given the wildfires and hurricanes that are currently ravaging the globe.

Through its longstanding partnership with the American Red Cross, Anheuser-Busch has a proud history of disaster relief and preparedness efforts including its flagship emergency drinking water program.

“Our commitment to disaster relief has always been built on a foundation of preparedness to ensure that we always stand ready to support our communities in times of need. In an emergency, every second counts and it’s crucial to be prepared to respond at a moment’s notice,” said Colleen Lucas, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Anheuser-Busch. “Just as we prepare our emergency drinking water throughout the year, we recognize that we all must do our part as individuals to prepare to protect not only ourselves but also those who rely on us most – like our pets. This National Preparedness Month, we are proud to leverage our reach to encourage people to prepare for disasters or emergencies in their homes, businesses, and communities.”

As part of the partnership, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation will provide a $200,000 donation to American Humane to assist its rescue operations.

Whenever and wherever natural or manmade disasters strike, the American Humane rescue team carefully monitors the situation and prepares to deploy resources in the most effective and efficient way possible. Tending to stranded, injured and lost animals in the wake of a natural disaster requires 24 hour care to help ensure the mental and physical health and wellbeing of each animal.

American Humane Rescue was founded more than 100 years ago during World War I when the U.S. Secretary of War requested assistance caring for injured horses in war-torn Europe. Since then, American Humane’s team of animal first responders have been on the ground for virtually every disaster in our nation’s history, from Pearl Harbor, to 9/11, to Hurricane Katrina, to the devastating California wildfires and everything in between.
