Biography

Patricia N. Olson, DVM, PhD, is the Chief Veterinary Advisor of the Animal Welfare and Research Institute, former president/CEO of the Morris Animal Foundation and also serves as an advisor for American Humane and other animal-health and welfare groups. A former practicing veterinarian and scientist who studied reproduction and endocrinology, Dr. Olson has an extensive history in nonprofit work, including positions at Guide Dogs for the Blind and the American Humane. She also served as an AVMA Congressional Science Fellow and has taught at three veterinary colleges.

Dr. Olson helped to found many programs that foster the human-animal bond – from preventing animal and child abuse to promoting humane dog training methods to consulting for governments and industries on humane and healthful transportation of animals worldwide. She has won numerous awards for her work. In 1998, she was named Bustad Companion Animal Veterinary of the Year.
