Melissa Sanoff
Biography
Melissa is a CPA with over 20 years of experience in accounting and finance, specializing in not-for-profit organizations. As a key member of American Humane, she oversees financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, and financial compliance, ensuring robust internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
Before joining American Humane, Melissa served as the Chief Financial Officer at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace for over 15 years. There, she managed daily accounting, financial reporting, grants management, and strategic budgeting. Melissa also acted as the finance board liaison and oversaw financial operations for global offices in Belgium, India, Lebanon, Russia, and China.
Earlier in her career, Melissa worked as an audit manager in public accounting, focusing on not-for-profits, and served as the Controller for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She holds an MBA from the University of Maryland and a BA in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending time at home with her husband, two children, and rescue dogs, Bullet and Ruby.
