Biography

Kirsten Peterson is the Chief Talent Officer at American Humane. With a dedicated career in the nonprofit sector, Kirsten has consistently championed the rights and voices of vulnerable populations. Her extensive experience includes significant roles at The Pew Charitable Trusts, as well as various local nonprofit organizations and federal government agencies within the District of Columbia.

Kirsten’s educational background is rooted in a strong commitment to social justice and human welfare. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in History from Goshen College, followed by a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Further enhancing her expertise in human resources, Kirsten holds professional certifications as a PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional).

In her current role at American Humane, Kirsten leverages her skills and experience to lead talent management and development strategies, ensuring the organization attracts, retains, and nurtures top talent committed to its mission of promoting the welfare of animals and people alike.
