Jill Nizan is the Director of Conservation Operations at American Humane, where she has made significant contributions for over a decade. In 2016, Jill was instrumental in launching the American Humane Certified™ and Global Humane Certified™ programs for zoos and aquariums.
These programs are dedicated to recognizing and promoting exemplary animal welfare practices in zoological settings worldwide. Under Jill’s leadership, the certification programs have expanded their global reach, now certifying more than 75 zoological facilities across 17 countries, including North America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Her collaboration with an international network of animal welfare experts has been pivotal in advancing the program’s mission.
Jill holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in communication studies. Her expertise extends beyond conservation operations; she served as the Coordinating Producer for the 2020 American Humane Hero Dog Awards® and as Associate Producer for the documentary Escape from Extinction Rewilding. Jill’s work continues to drive American Humane’s efforts in promoting the highest standards of animal welfare globally.
