100+ Cats Rescued in the Nick of Time
On April 25th, American Humane deployed to a heartbreaking situation in Tennessee involving more than 100 cats suffering from a devastating hoarding crisis. These animals faced conditions so horrific that our rescue team had to wear protective gear due to the dangerous levels of ammonia and an overwhelming amount of cat fur.
Although this mission has come to a successful conclusion, the need to save animals from life-threatening situations is more important than ever.
Your support is crucial in allowing us to be ready to deploy at a moment’s notice, rescue animals in distress, provide essential medical care, and find them new homes. Your continued compassion and generosity make a significant impact on the lives of suffering animals.

The cats were discovered in a house where many were hiding inside furniture, walls, and ceilings, with many unable to access the little food left for them by their owner. Some were in critical condition and needed immediate medical care.
Our team worked diligently, determined to save these innocent cats. We’re happy to share that the cats have been cleared from the house and are on a path to recovery.
Our team administered urgent care, including preparing them for spay/neuter. We then worked with our local partners to transport some of the cats to Nashville and other nearby shelters to receive further specialized care or be placed for adoption. Additionally, our team provided Basic Training in the community to help build local capacity for disaster response and train new volunteers.

We want to share the heartbreaking stories of three cats from this rescue mission. These cats are just a few of the many in urgent need of your support:
Rayen, a blind kitten born without eyes due to severe inbreeding and deplorable conditions, experienced a world of filth and horrible ammonia levels. Our team provided extra love and comfort to Rayen, and in just 24 hours she began seeking affection and human contact. She’s now heading to a foster family experienced in caring for blind cats and continuing her journey to a forever home.
Rudy, a young tomcat, suffered from severe chemical burns on his nose, mouth ulcers, and disfigurement. Our team swiftly transported him to a veterinary clinic for emergency care. Thanks to their quick actions, Rudy is on the road to recovery and is being fostered by a veterinarian for specialized care.
Tom, an older ginger tomcat, was found staggering as he approached our Rescue team for help. He was in severe pain from a high fever, bladder infection, mouth ulcers, a lacerated tongue, and a neck wound. He was immediately taken to an emergency veterinary clinic and is now in foster care with a veterinarian for specialized attention.
These cats are now safe and on a path to recovery. However, their journey is just beginning, and they desperately need your help.

Earlier this week, American Humane urgently deployed to Tennessee to help rescue 100 cats suffering in a devastating hoarding crisis. Upon arrival, our Rescue Team found these innocent animals in filth so unimaginable, they had to wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) due to the high ammonia levels in the hazardous environment.
Our team immediately went to work and has currently removed 55 cats from the shocking scene, but more are still hiding in the filth. To add to this situation, adverse weather conditions are making it challenging to rescue cats that are outside the house.
These cats desperately need our help. Sadly, not all the cats inside the house were able to access the limited food left for them by their owner. And, tragically, one cat was born without eyes due to the hazardous living conditions.
Our team has set up a temporary emergency shelter where our partners are performing spay and neuter procedures in preparation for transporting the cats to safe havens. Medical screenings are also being conducted on rescued cats. Our team discovered even though they appear healthy, their fur is hiding underlying medical conditions and masking how alarmingly thin they really are. Please take action today to help these innocent animals.

A heartbreaking situation has unfolded in Tennessee, where over 100 cats have been suffering in a devastating hoarding crisis.
American Humane has been called upon to provide urgent assistance to our partners on the ground. With over 40 cats already removed from the hazardous scene, our Rescue Team is gearing up right now to help remove 60+ additional cats from the deplorable conditions they have been living in.
The environment these cats are in is dangerous, with high ammonia levels requiring our team to wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) during this rescue operation. These innocent animals are living in unimaginable filth and suffering, but with your support, we can give them a chance for a healthier and happier life.
