Roma was able to have a Second Chance because of YOU

Roma’s life changed in an instant.

Already a senior cat who had experienced years of instability and multiple homes, Roma suddenly found herself fighting for her life after being attacked by four large dogs. She suffered devastating injuries, including a fractured jaw, and needed immediate emergency veterinary care to survive.

Her medical needs were extensive. Emergency diagnostics, specialized surgery and weeks of follow-up care meant overwhelming veterinary expenses—far beyond what her owners could afford. Without another option, they planned to euthanize her.

Thankfully, a local rescue refused to give up on Roma. With a Second Chance Grant from American Humane Society, Roma received the lifesaving medical care she desperately needed. Instead of losing her life, she was given the opportunity to heal.

Today, Roma is recovering in a loving foster home. While she still has a journey ahead of her, her prognosis is good, and she is expected to make a full recovery.

Most importantly, this gentle senior kitty now has the chance to spend her golden years surrounded by comfort, safety and love instead of pain and uncertainty.

Unfortunately, Roma’s story isn’t unique.

Every day, shelters and rescue organizations care for animals who have suffered neglect, trauma or other heartbreaking circumstances. Many require emergency surgeries and specialized medical treatment before they can begin their new lives, but the cost of that care can be overwhelming.

American Humane Society’s Second Chance® Grants help provide lifesaving medical care for these vulnerable animals, giving them the opportunity to heal, recover and find the loving homes they deserve.

Your gift today will help provide more Second Chance Grants for animals like Roma while supporting American Humane Society’s life-changing and impactful programs—ensuring we’re there whenever and wherever animals need us most.

Please make your lifesaving gift today.

The Power of a Second Chance

American Humane Society’s Second Chance Grants fund emergency surgeries, life-saving treatments and recovery care for animals rescued from heartbreaking circumstances. Whether it’s a dog pulled from a neglectful home, a cat left injured on the street, or a horse starved and forgotten — this program gives them the medical support they need to survive and thrive.

But none of it is possible without the generosity of people like you.

When you donate, you help fund critical care for animals who might otherwise be lost. And your gift helps American Humane Society continue responding wherever the need is greatest — so no animal has to suffer simply because resources weren’t there.
