NumNum was able to have a Second Chance because of YOU

When rescuers found NumNum, she had already endured more suffering than any dog should ever know.

One of nearly 300 dogs rescued from a severe neglect situation, NumNum had been living without proper food, medical care or basic necessities. She was severely underweight, covered in fleas and so weak she could barely stand.

The worst damage wasn’t immediately visible.

Because of prolonged neglect and an untreated tick-borne disease, NumNum developed vasculitis. The disease was so severe that it caused the tissue on her nose to deteriorate and disappear.

Imagine the pain. Imagine trying to eat, breathe and survive after losing part of your nose.

Through it all, NumNum never stopped fighting.

To save her life and restore her ability to live comfortably, veterinarians performed two complex reconstructive surgeries. The cost of this specialized care was staggering—thousands of dollars that many organizations simply cannot afford on their own.

That’s where a Second Chance Grant from American Humane Society stepped in.

Thanks to this support, NumNum received the lifesaving surgeries she needed. Surgeons painstakingly rebuilt her nasal area, removed damaged scar tissue and worked to ensure she could live her best life possible.

For NumNum, those procedures meant the difference between continued suffering and a chance to heal.

Today, while she continues to recover, the frightened dog who once hid in a corner is beginning to emerge. Her gentle spirit shines through in every tail wag, every cuddle and every sign of trust she offers the humans who refused to give up on her.

That’s the power of a Second Chance.

But many more animals like NumNum still waiting for help. Please make your compassionate gift today to help give more animals like NumNum the second chance they deserve.

The Power of a Second Chance

American Humane Society’s Second Chance Grants fund emergency surgeries, life-saving treatments and recovery care for animals rescued from heartbreaking circumstances. Whether it’s a dog pulled from a neglectful home, a cat left injured on the street, or a horse starved and forgotten — this program gives them the medical support they need to survive and thrive.

But none of it is possible without the generosity of people like you.

When you donate, you help fund critical care for animals who might otherwise be lost. And your gift helps American Humane Society continue responding wherever the need is greatest — so no animal has to suffer simply because resources weren’t there.
