Flynn’s injuries were severe. But his will to live was stronger.

Flynn had multiple fractures in his front leg and was suffering from a painful infection. He was rushed to an emergency vet, where X-rays confirmed the worst. The leg couldn’t be saved. His only hope was a full amputation.

When his rescuers asked whether euthanasia might be the most humane option, Flynn responded the only way he could: he nuzzled in close, asking for love, asking for a chance.

Thanks to a Second Chance Grant from the American Humane Society, Flynn received the emergency surgery and critical follow-up care he needed — including drainage ports, cultures and strong antibiotics to fight off the infection.

It was a difficult road. But Flynn never stopped fighting.

Today, he’s thriving in the home of the volunteer who fostered and adopted him. He is clever, affectionate and finally safe.

The Power of a Second Chance

American Humane Society’s Second Chance grants fund emergency surgeries, life-saving treatments and recovery care for animals rescued from heartbreaking circumstances. Whether it’s a dog pulled from a neglectful home, a cat left injured on the street, or a horse starved and forgotten—this program gives them the medical support they need to survive and thrive.

But none of it is possible without the generosity of people like you.

When you donate, you help fund critical care for animals who might otherwise be lost. And your gift helps American Humane Society continue responding wherever the need is greatest—so no animal has to suffer simply because resources weren’t there.
