Dolly was able to have a Second Chance because of YOU

When Dolly was rescued at only 8-months-old, she was in heartbreaking condition. This young shepherd had been kept outside in unsafe conditions, kicked and neglected by the people who should have cared for her. By the time help arrived, she was fighting a life-threatening case of pneumonia and could barely breathe.

Dolly was rushed for emergency hospitalization, where she received diagnostic testing, IV fluids, antibiotics and constant care to stabilize her fragile condition. A Second Chance® Grant from American Humane Society helped cover the cost of her treatment, giving her a true second chance at life.

Despite everything she endured, Dolly never lost her gentle spirit. Today she is out of the hospital and continuing to grow stronger each day — eating well, barking again and slowly discovering what it means to feel safe.

Still just a puppy, Dolly now has the chance to heal, find a loving home and live the life she was always meant to have.

Stories like Dolly’s are possible because compassionate supporters like you help ensure animals suffering from cruelty and neglect can receive urgent medical care when they need it most.

The Power of a Second Chance

American Humane Society’s Second Chance Grants fund emergency surgeries, life-saving treatments and recovery care for animals rescued from heartbreaking circumstances. Whether it’s a dog pulled from a neglectful home, a cat left injured on the street, or a horse starved and forgotten — this program gives them the medical support they need to survive and thrive.

But none of it is possible without the generosity of people like you.

When you donate, you help fund critical care for animals who might otherwise be lost. And your gift helps American Humane Society continue responding wherever the need is greatest — so no animal has to suffer simply because resources weren’t there.
