Delta was able to have a second chance because of YOU.

When rescuers found Delta, a 20-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse, she was standing alone in a muddy field — trembling, thin, and bleeding from a gaping wound on her back leg.

Delta had been forced to live among longhorn cattle as more than sixty animals fought over scraps of food. The cattle’s horns had torn into her flesh, leaving her weak and in excruciating pain.

She was out of strength — but not out of hope.

Thanks to a Second Chance® Grant from American Humane Society, a local rescue was able to rush Delta to the veterinary hospital, where she received two weeks of intensive, round-the-clock care. Her wound was cleaned and treated daily, her body carefully nourished back to health, and her spirit slowly rekindled.

Then something miraculous happened.

One of the veterinary technicians who cared for Delta during her recovery fell in love with her gentle nature. When Delta was finally strong enough to leave the ICU, that same caregiver adopted her.

Today, Delta is thriving — her coat shines, her eyes are bright, and she spends her days surrounded by love and safety.

Delta’s recovery, her peace, her second chance — all of it was made possible because of compassionate people like you.

But for every Delta, there’s another animal still waiting to be saved.

The Power of a Second Chance

American Humane Society’s Second Chance grants fund emergency surgeries, life-saving treatments and recovery care for animals rescued from heartbreaking circumstances. Whether it’s a dog pulled from a neglectful home, a cat left injured on the street, or a horse starved and forgotten—this program gives them the medical support they need to survive and thrive.

But none of it is possible without the generosity of people like you.

When you donate, you help fund critical care for animals who might otherwise be lost. And your gift helps American Humane Society continue responding wherever the need is greatest—so no animal has to suffer simply because resources weren’t there.
