Thank You for Supporting Our Lifesaving Work During Hurricanes Helene and Milton
American Humane’s Rescue Team has completed its critical missions in North Carolina and Florida, where we provided life-saving relief to animals impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Throughout these back-to-back disasters, we acted quickly, rescuing animals from dangerous conditions and delivering vital supplies to shelters and communities overwhelmed by the storms.
- In North Carolina, following Hurricane Helene, we reached 60 communities across four counties, distributing over 4,100 pounds of dog food and 1,400 pounds of cat food, along with essential items like crates, water, and medical supplies. Our team worked tirelessly to conduct welfare checks and assist animals, including a successful rescue of 13 puppies who were safely transported out of the disaster area to find new homes.
In Florida, after Hurricane Milton struck as a Category 3 storm, our team immediately deployed to the hardest-hit areas. Partnering with Hillsborough County Animal Services, we conducted water rescues to reach flooded properties, where pets and livestock had been left behind. Our water rescue team accessed homes surrounded by floodwaters, ensuring the safety of animals like cats, birds, and livestock. We also delivered much-needed pet food and supplies to shelters, helping to stabilize their operations during this critical time.
These disasters highlighted the urgent need for swift action, and thanks to your support, we were able to respond quickly, rescuing animals in danger and providing them with the care they needed to survive. But the need for readiness never stops, and we must remain prepared for future disasters. -
