What’s Happening in Texas
When situations like this grow unchecked, they can quickly become overwhelming for both people and animals. These innocent animals are living in horrific conditions with some needing urgent medical care. They deserve safety, care and the opportunity to recover.
Our team is working with partners on the ground to help ensure every animal:
- Emergency veterinary evaluation and care
- Food, clean bedding, and a safe place to rest
- The care and support they need on the road to recovery and loving homes
For these animals, this rescue mission could mean the difference between continued suffering and a second chance at life.
Please give today to help American Humane Society continue caring for and protecting animals whenever and wherever they need us most.

American Humane Society has been called back to the site in Texas to provide additional support.
Our team is on the ground right now, working with local partners to assess the situation, support the safe transfer of animals and help ensure they receive the urgent care they need.
As animals are brought into care, they are receiving comprehensive veterinary evaluations and the support they need to begin recovery.
What we do know is this: the situation is not over.
And for many of these dogs, the care they receive right now will determine what happens next.
We cannot do this lifesaving work without you.
Your gift today will help provide urgent veterinary care, nourishment and safe shelter for vulnerable animals while supporting American Humane Society’s impactful programs protecting animals everywhere.
March 2026
American Humane Society removed eleven dogs that needed urgent medical attention from three properties near Dallas, TX. One of the dogs recovered was Sweetie, 1-year-old dog found in critical condition with a wounded, infected paw and a discovery that changed everything — she is pregnant with at least seven puppies.
To properly treat Sweetie, our Rescue Team is coordinating with local veterinarians on a thoughtfully phased care plan designed to protect both Sweetie and her pups.
Sweetie’s injured left front leg will ultimately need to be amputated, but veterinarians have determined the surgery must wait until after her puppies are safely delivered. In the days ahead, Sweetie will move to a safe, closely monitored environment where she will receive around-the-clock care as she approaches her due date. Once her puppies arrive, she will have a long road to motherhood and recovery. But she will not walk it alone.
Cases like Sweetie’s reflect our mission in its truest form: reaching animals in critical condition, providing expert veterinary intervention and guiding animals to safety and recovery.
Sweetie’s journey – from a rescue site in Texas, to giving birth, to surgery, to a life free from pain – requires resources, time and the dedication of veterinary professionals and rescue teams working every step of the way. Your support can help make that possible.
Every contribution supports the veterinary care, shelter and recovery services that animals like Sweetie urgently need.
