Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton: American Humane’s Emergency Rescue Response

Hurricane Helene brought severe flooding and dangerous winds, putting the lives of thousands of animals at risk. American Humane’s Rescue Team is on the ground, racing to help save lives, but we need your help to continue these life-saving efforts and ensure we can deploy at a moment’s notice to assist in communities impacted by Hurricane Milton.

Wednesday, October 9

As American Humane’s Rescue Team continues to make a life-saving impact in western North Carolina, our Florida based rescue trailer is loaded with essential supplies and our highly trained team stands ready to protect and save animals in need as Hurricane Milton makes landfall.

Yesterday, we responded to two urgent rescue calls: We removed two dogs left behind after their owners evacuated and transported 13 puppies from overwhelmed owners to safety. Our team is actively delivering supplies, including 3,000 pounds of dog food, 1,150 pounds of cat food, and essential items like crates and water. Despite significant communication challenges, our team is using radios and satellite systems to ensure that no shelter or animal is left behind.
