Help Save the African Penguin

Through Global Humane Conservation Fund of Africa, a program of Global Humane Society, you can help save the African penguin from extinction.

Just 1% of the African penguin’s original population remains in the wild. On St. Croix Island off the coast in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, once home to nearly 8,000 breeding pairs, fewer than 700 remain today. Scientists warn there may be less than 10 years left to turn this around.

We need your urgent support to bring the African penguin back from the brink of extinction.

The Global Humane Conservation Fund of Africa is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and protecting African penguins while preserving the fragile ecosystems they call home.

The African penguin is now classified as Critically Endangered, with populations in steep decline, the final stage before they become extinct in the wild. Without significant action, the species is projected to face extinction by 2035.

We can only take action with your support, and that of our partners, The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), and their countless volunteers.

Together with SANCCOB, we are developing the Global Humane Society Seabird ICU and Nursery. This state-of-the-art facility will enable our partners to double the amount of African penguins they are able to treat and chicks they are able to rescue, rehabilitate and release back into the wild.
