Resolve to Support Humane Farming in 2021

An overwhelming majority of American adults – some 189 million by one count – are resolved to do things differently in 2021. New Year’s resolutions can be big or small, aggressive or cautious. Some will ring in the new year intent on looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger, while others will be content to drink more water.

This year, more than any other in recent memory, many are clamoring for a blank slate, an opportunity to start fresh and turn over a new leaf. It is no surprise why – the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic has affected virtually every corner of the globe and facet of humane life.

It is important to remember that everyone can build a better world with even the smallest of decisions. If you are still looking for the right New Year’s resolution, or even if you have already decided on another, you can still commit to building a safer, more humane world by supporting humane farmers and ranchers.

If 2020 taught us anything, it is that animal lives and human lives are inextricably connected. COVID-19 originated in a wet market in Wuhan, China, where animals are kept in inhumane, unhygienic conditions. The formation and spread of the virus are ultimately the result of a broken human-animal contract. It’s time to begin rebuilding that sacred bond.

This year, American Humane is encouraging everyone to support farmers and ranchers who are working to elevate farm animal welfare.

Animal welfare must be judged by objective, science-based standards. That is why the American Humane CertifiedTM program only awards its seal of approval to farmers and ranchers who comply with more than 200 evidence-based, species-specific standards. Farms are assessed by wholly independent auditors that have no incentive for passing or failing a producer. That’s why you can trust that farms certified by American Humane are truly doing right by the animals in their care.

We recommend that all ethically minded consumers look for the American Humane CertifiedTM label in stores. They can be assured that products carrying that label meet the highest standards of animal welfare.
