Los Angeles Wildfires: American Humane Society Rescue Team is Ready to Mobilize

American Humane Society’s Rescue Team is on high alert and ready to mobilize immediately to help protect and save animals affected by the devastating wildfires. As the fires rage across Southern California, families are forced to flee their homes and, in some cases, leave their beloved pets behind. The flames are spreading rapidly, and every moment counts for the innocent lives at risk.

Currently, we have a state-of-the-art rescue truck that is stationed in North Los Angeles and team members preparing our equipment to provide emergency shelter, medical care, and comfort to animals in crisis. Our Rescue Team coordinates with local organizations and officials for requests for assistance before deploying resources in the most effective and efficient way possible.

Protecting your loved ones, including your pets, requires swift and decisive action.

Here are essential steps to safeguard your pets during wildfires:

  • Be Ready: Prepare a pet emergency kit with food, water, medications and carriers. Ensure your pets have updated ID tags or microchips for quick identification if they are separated from you.
  • Act Immediately During Evacuation: Take your pets with you. If they cannot be secured quickly enough, leave the door open and alert emergency responders to their location.
  • After the Fire: Keep pets on leashes or in carriers as debris and disorientation can create hidden dangers. Be patient and provide comfort to them; familiar items can help reduce their stress.

We have also set up an Emergency Relief Fund for Animals to take immediate action to support animals in urgent need. Donations will help provide life-saving resources like food, water and essential supplies.
