Cologne Zoo has achieved Global Humane Certified™ recognition for its high standards in the care and treatment of animals and is the first in Germany to receive this certification.
This certification offers Global Humane Society the opportunity to demonstrate the great importance of zoological facilities, and we are thrilled to have expanded the reach of the Certified Zoos and Aquariums Program to Germany.
In order to be recognized as Global Humane Certified, Cologne Zoo passed a rigorous, independent examination lasting several days that examined the welfare of the animals living there. Our standards are based on the latest scientific findings and are informed by experienced veterinarians and experts in the fields of animal welfare animal science, zoology and ethics. Our audits help ensure that zoos and aquariums provide excellent conditions for the animals in their care, and provide guests with greater assurance that the facility they are visiting is worth their support.
The Supervisory Board sees the certification as confirmation of how high the standards and benchmarks are in the Cologne Zoo when it comes to animal welfare. This is a great honor and makes us proud.
