As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect with gratitude on a year that strengthened our mission and deepened our impact for animals in need.
This year marked the beginning of a powerful new chapter with the launch of our rebrand from American Humane to American Humane Society. More than a name change, it represents a renewed commitment to compassion, clarity, and courage, and a stronger connection to the community that stands behind our lifesaving work.
Around the world, our life-changing programs guide the humane treatment of animals in the wild, as well as in films, farms, zoos and critical rescue situations. Our international brand, Global Humane Society rescues, cares for and protects animals in 62 countries across six continents. We safeguard the welfare of 1.7 billion animals every year.

We brought our mission to life in a powerful new way by launching two landmark sanctuaries in the same month in spring 2025. In Florida, we broke ground on the American Humane Society Sanctuary generously supported by the Kazma family to expand service dog training, veteran retreats, and disaster response, while in South Africa we established the Brad and Alice Andrews Preserve, opening 682 acres of protected land to restore ecosystems and safeguard endangered wildlife. Together, these sanctuaries stand as living proof of our mission in action.
We answered the call when animals needed us most. During the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, we delivered emergency rescue, shelter, and veterinary care to animals caught in crisis, helping reunite families with beloved pets and bringing safety and healing to vulnerable animals.

We also celebrated the best of humanity. The Hero Dog Awards® inspired the nation with stories of bravery, loyalty, and unconditional love, while our annual Kiessling Prize honored the extraordinary leadership advancing wildlife conservation and animal welfare around the world.

Every rescue, every story of hope, and every life changed this year reflects the power of compassion in action.
And we are just getting started. In 2026, we proudly kick off our 150th anniversary celebration, honoring a century and a half of humane protection while boldly building the future for animals everywhere.
